Revisiting New York City
Travel provides greater awareness and diversity of thought. It opens up a world of new experiences.
A few years ago, I was sitting in a meeting where we were discussing a trip to New York City for a group of high school students. This was shortly after COVID-19. I was in the process of sending two of my teenagers to New York for another visit. They had each been there a couple of times already. One of the parents piped up about the danger of being in the city. It did not sound like they were concerned with the safety of Covid but more the overall safety of being in the city.
I just spent the past week in New York City. It was so much fun. As I started counting my total visits to the city I came up with 16 visits over the past 15 years. I have come to love that city. There is so much to do and to explore. I highly recommend any time spent in the city. Over all of these visits, I have never felt concerned for my safety or that of anyone who has been with me.
Here are some of the highlights from this most recent trip.
I have never been much of a theater buff but my children have certainly gotten me more interested. This is only the second time that I have seen a show on Broadway. Here are the Broadway Shows that we had the privilege to attend.
Outsiders
Hell’s Kitchen
The Great Gatsby
Thoughts I had while exploring
It always amazes me the birds and tranquility that can be found while getting lost down some of those paths in Central Park amidst one of the biggest cities in the world
Wandering around the city reveals new little pockets every time I am there. There is so much of the city to cover. It is amazing how different the vibe can be only a few blocks away from one area to the next.
People long for green spaces. The parks, Highline, Hudson River Trail, and other areas are so often packed with people running, walking, sitting, soaking up the feel of nature.
I really enjoy traveling and how it rewires my brain and exposes me to great places and wonderful people. The gift of travel is the gift of a more rounded and diverse life lived.
